My GAME plan for boosting my proficiency in NETS-T would have to focus on these two indicators:
1.b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
And
2.b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
My goal would be too have my students be able to work independently on web-based projects that interest them. My action would be to model using the tolls for a research project at each grade level, gradually preparing them for becoming self-directed learners. I would monitor my progress by assessing if the students are becoming more and more independent with each project. At each assessment I would determine what is working well and what needs to be reworked or augmented in some way. I would continually look for new technology to introduce to the students so that many different learning modalities are incorporated.

ReplyDeleteHow would you ensure that the students are able to work independently other than modeling behavior? This is a great method for visual and auditory learners, but what about kinesthetic learners? How will you monitor if students are becoming more independent? I would love to know of a tool I can use to measure this. I also really like how you mentioned multiple modalities. I really like your GAME plan and I would love to know more detail about what your plans for implementation entail.
ReplyDeleteJohn, per your first goal, may I suggest EdHeads.org. If you are not familiar, check it out, and if so...woo hoo! I use it all the time, even just for fun. My students love to build the cell phone.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is also to make lessons more authentic. This might be one of the more challenging goals when thrown in with teaching to standards, passing state tests, and all the other responsibilities we take on as teachers. Good luck with your goals.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a classroom of students all working in independent projects that speak to each individual interest. How do you feel that you can fairly assess each person’s project so that there are no issues with administrators, parents or other students? Will the deadlines be different for each student, or will there be a set time frame for everyone to complete their work in? You have set an ambitious goal and I hope you succeed in achieving it.
Thanks for sharing,
Max Mills
Thanks for all your comments. The issues of assessing a wide range of projects falls to following the NETS-S standards. If I am teaching the students skills required to master these standards, my administrators should not have an issue with it. My plan is to get them to take small steps at first, in Kindergarten and first grade, so that they will be more independent by second and third grade. With this time frame they will have varying deadlines for their projects but will have a portfolio of all their work at years end.
