Resources for the GAME plan
What I need to set up for my classes in order to allow them to explore real world issues would be a class blog that would link them to current events and other things that may be of interest to the students. By setting up the blog I could get feedback from the students on what they would like to learn more about. I could also solicit ideas from my colleagues as to what could also tie into what they are studying back in their homerooms. I have not been able to do too much on my plan this week as some family health issues have taken away from my computer time. If I am back in the same teaching situation in the Fall, I will have access to online encyclopedias, Safari Videos and Brain Pop animations to help the students find out more about their topics.

I really like how you plan to use the blog to make connections with other subject areas. The more connections we can make with the different subjects the better off our students will be. Do you feel that your colleagues will be open to this idea and consistently give input?

John, If I haven't already shared this with you...

John, the quetion that I keep asking myself is, how does what the students find interesting to them align with the standards to which we must teach to.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are setting up your blog, are you trying to find a hosting site that is accessible at the school as well as at home. Just something to think about for those students who don't have access to computers at home. It would be nice for them to be able to access the blogs from the school.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteMy class has used Wikispaces very well for over a year now. I really have come to value this resource. I like the idea of the blog, however, since the students have the opportunity to modify/delete other parts of the wiki.

John,
ReplyDeleteI also like how you plan to use collegues to assist you in your GAME plan. I believe blogs will also give your shy students the opportunity to be engaged in your class.
Do you have any idea how you can or are going to include your specialist (Physical education and Music)?
James
Thanks for all your feedback! To answer everyone, the blog will be accessible from school and I think most of my colleagues would be on board with the idea. As far as addressing the standards and specials, I am one of the specials so I am having my students meet the NETS-S standards, which would allow for student driven topics. The students could also use spreadsheets to set up their PE fitness charts and the internet to research the music they are studying in class.
